First of all I opened a new tab. (CTRL+T) and in the address bar typed about:config. A slightly humerous message warns me that I might void my waranty (I am sure I used to get a message something along of the lines of "Here be dragons" in the past?).Once I clicked through the "I'll be careful, I promise" Button I found myself in the about:config screen.
If you have not seen this screen before, it allows you to customise lots of Firefox's behaviours by adjusting settings.

Once in, there is a form control marked "Filter" typing "browser.backspace_action" will filter out the rest of the commands until you are left with the correct parameter.
Now I double click the parameter and a dialogue box opens.
I simply replaced the number 2 from this box with the number 0. Low and behold, even without the need for a reload, the backspace key is working in just the same way it did in Windows. I feel more comfortable browsing again and the world takes on a cosy glow once more!Newer news items:
