I removed Evolution, but it still wants to use a keyring.

In my last post I mentioned that I had tried Evolution out as a mail client and had found it to be lacking some must have features.  Particularly it does not allow you to drag and drop objects between components.

Well last night I tried Thunderbird as a mail client and I am happier with it than Evolution so far.  In itself Thunderbird does not include Calendar or tasks tools, but an add on called Lightening adds this extra function.  Not only that but the drag and drop of an e-mail to the calendar for instance works just like it does in outlook.  Without further ado I decided that this came closer to my needs,

I decided that it would be best for me to remove Evolution from my system.  I did not wish to have two mail clients on board and in the interests of tidyness I wanted shot of it.

Initially I tried to remove Evolution via the add remove programs item in the menu.  I was denied doing this and told to use synaptic package manager instead.  This I did, and it seemed pretty easy to do so.
Unfortunately Evolution has left me with an annoying message that appears regularly.  It tells me that Evolution (removed) wishes to access my keyring.   I remember being asked to set up a keyring when Evolution was first used, but I am baffled at this stage as to why an apparently removed piece of software is still hanging around and doing stuff.

Clicking Deny to the dialogue box makes it go away for a second, then it reappears.  Denying a second time banishes it for a bit longer, but it still keeps reapearing.... Confused completely!

Hi,

AFAIK evolution isn't just used as email client but also for some inner system messaging stuff I don't fully understand (yet).
On my system for example ther are three background processes running although I have never started evolution! These are:
"evolution-alarm-notify"
"evolution-data-server-2.26"
"evolution-exchange-storage"

Have you looked into the keyring settings (accessible under "system" menu, and then click through)? Maybe you can grant {whatever residues of evolution are still on your system} access to {whatever it wants to do} there? I've looked there myself but found no "evolution" entries. But I haven't set any keyring for it, after all...
(I sometimes feel the gnome keyring thingie is a bit buggy. But it was worse with intrepid than it is now with jaunty)

Hope this will sort out for you,

cheers

Dennis

Hmm, I'm having some issues with this blog software you are using. I wanted to comment your latest entry but it doesn't work... Also if you mistype the anti bot code all your entered text gets deleted...

To say something about the Evolution topic: Those daemons Dennis mentioned (or at least the two latter of them) are used for syncing the calendar database between different programs. So if you want to sync your PDA or handy with let's say Lightning in Thunderbird or the small calendar of the Clock panel applet you will probably still need to set up those daemons to work woth both of them as a kind of middle layer though you don't start Evolution at all. That's really annoying (since I also use Thunderbird and don't use a calendar at all) and remembers me of IE in Windows...
