Using Evolution

E-mail Print PDF
So far so good on the project.  I have tried out several live disks, chosen Ubuntu 9.04 and successfully installed it.  On top of this I have setup Evolution, an E-mail client with similar function to Outlook.  Evolution arrived with my Ubuntu download.  Its appearance is similar to Outlooks.  Howev…

I second that evolution is not THE best of all email clients for ubuntu.
I've learned to like Thunderbird 2.x (its in the ubuntu repositories, means you can easily install it with synaptic) since its pretty full-featured. What I'm missing is you cannot minimize Thunderbird to the tray (not without help of external tools).

I've resorted to start thunderbird vial "alltray" utility, but thats another story I guess right?

As far as I know, the only way to go from Outlook to Evolution is by using Thunderbird as an intermediate step. Thunderbird can import outlook files, but Evolution can't. However, Evolution can import from Thunderbird, once Thunderbird has imported the files and saved it in its own format.

Tonight I am looking at ScribeFire, a Mozzilla FireFox add on that hopefully may end my blogging software woes.My website uses a moveabletype-api to allow me to drop articles on to the site.  This offers huge advantages for me when composing articles.  I don't have to rely on the websites own articl…

Well, it looks like it uploaded the image Ok for you. I googled a bit and found Thingamablog billed as being the most feature rich blogging helper:

thingamablog.sourceforge.net/

It doesn't have a .deb file but I downloaded the .zip file for linux. If you extract it, then navigate into the newly created folder and run the command:

java -jar thingamablog.jar

It should start up for you so you can have a look at it. I use the Nautilus add-on nautilus-open-terminal so that I just right-click when I'm in a folder and it opens the terminal there. I'm sure there's a way to set up a menu shortcut or something if you want to use Thingamablog. Hopefully you have all the java bits you need already installed.

Making a starter is as easy as:

1. Open a text editor (GEdit for example)
2. Type in:

Code:

#!/bin/bash

java -jar /path/to/thingamablog.jar  # replace the path to where your thingamablog.jar is

3. Save it whereever you want as thingamablog.sh
4. Right click on it, select "Properties", change to the "Permissions" tab and check “Allow executing file as program”.

Hi does thingamablog do moveabletype entries? I was looking at the documentation for it and as far as I could gather it uploaded static pages. Did I miss something?

Other than that it does look very good...
